About Us
Görülecek Yerler (“places to see”) is a free travel guide that brings together places to visit, famous dishes, regional products and transport information for the 81 provinces and 976 districts of Türkiye. Our aim is to give you the essential information you need before a trip, in a clear and reliable way.
What is on the site?
- Province pages: Every province has three guides: places to visit, famous dishes and regional products, and how to get there. Places are grouped by type (historic, natural, religious, museum, ancient city and so on).
- District pages: The district’s key facts (area, elevation, population), its history, places to visit and local food.
- Region pages: An overview of each of the seven geographical regions, with a list of its provinces.
The English edition is translated from the original Turkish guide. It covers the province and region guides and almost all of the district guides.
Where does the information come from?
- Figures such as population, area and elevation come from the address-based population records of TÜİK (the Turkish Statistical Institute) and other official bodies.
- Places to visit and history are based on sources such as museum directorates, municipalities, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Kültür Portalı, UNESCO World Heritage records and Wikipedia.
- Regional products are checked against the geographical indication register of TÜRKPATENT (the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office).
How do we prepare it?
Every province page has been researched and rewritten individually. If the name, location or history of a place does not match the sources, it is removed from the page; information without a source is not added. On district pages, information that can be verified against sources is published first; fields that cannot yet be verified are kept from earlier content and updated as research is completed. This is why some district pages are more detailed than others. The “last updated” date on each page shows when the information was last reviewed.
