History

The history of the region goes back to very ancient times. It was the administrative centre of four cities founded by the Pisidians: Cbyra, Bubon, Balbura and İnuanda. The Armutlu subdistrict, attached to Tefenni district, became a district named Gölhisar in 1953, with its centre designated as Horzum and Armutlu.

Economy and Agriculture

Gölhisar is the district where farming is most productive; sugar beet, anise, cereals, vegetables and fruit are grown. The Gölhisar Plain is an alluvial plain irrigated by the waters of the Yapraklı Dam, built on the Dalaman River.

History and Culture

In 1953, Gölhisar was a subdistrict (bucak) of Tefenni district in Burdur Province, before being reorganised as a district. The district’s name comes from a castle (hisar) built by the Hamitoğulları in the middle of Uylupınar Lake. Cbyra (Kibyra) later became the administrative centre of the Romans. The district consists of 1 town (belde), 12 villages and 10 neighbourhoods.
