Geography

Yenice is a district of Karabük covering 777 km² and lying at an altitude of 137 metres. Because of its geography, the district has very rugged terrain and very dense forested areas. The Filyos Stream and the İncedere Stream flow through the middle of the district centre. Its forests contain monumental trees that have reached well above standard height and girth, and many tree species. The uninhabited continuous forests are called the “sea of forest”. According to the 2020 address-based population census, the central population is 9,306 and the total population is 20,116. Since the 1990s the district has suffered heavy emigration, as privatisation reduced job opportunities and new investment has not been made.

History and Culture

Yenice suffered heavy emigration after the 1990s, due to privatisation and a lack of investment.
