Çağlayancerit walnuts have been protected through a geographical indication application to the Turkish Patent Institute. The Çağlayancerit walnut is a full-bodied variety of extra-large size, with a light yellow kernel, a soft texture, and a shell that cracks easily so the kernel can be removed whole.
Çağlayancerit became a town (belde) in 1985 when it gained municipal status. It is remembered as the last place Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu visited before his death.
Çağlayancerit is 64 km from the provincial centre and covers an area of 419 km². Mosaics found in Küçükcerit Village show that the settlement dates back to the 3rd–4th centuries AD. The district occupies a strategic position on the Elbistan–Pazarcık road.
