Geography

The wide Bulanık Plain is very fertile. The plain is home to many plant species, including tulips and poppies that are characteristic of the Muş Plain. It is the habitat of the last 11 telli turna (Eurasian crane) remaining in Türkiye. The Alparslan 1 Dam in the area has brought changes to the district’s climate.

Economy and Culture

Small-scale factories in the district produce dairy products, sugar, textiles and raw agricultural materials. Beekeeping is another source of livelihood in the district, but it is gradually declining under the effects of agricultural chemicals. Kazan Lake and the Murat River are important resources for fishing.

History and Culture

Bulanık is the second-largest district of Muş after the central district. It became a district of Muş when Muş was made a province in 1927.
