Gümüşova is a district of Düzce province, located on the D-100 highway. It lies 18 km from Düzce city centre, on the edge of the Düzce plain.
In 1321 the Gümüşova district was conquered, together with Düzce and Üskübü, by Konuralp Gazi, a companion-in-arms of Osman Bey. Because stables were built in Gümüşova to shelter the animals of the Ottoman army over winter, the district took the name Kışla (barracks). In 1927 Kışla gained the status of a nahiye (subdistrict), and in 1963 a municipal organisation was set up. In 1987 it merged with Cumayeri under the name Cumaova, and in 1991 it became an independent district again under the name Gümüşova.
The district has a typical Black Sea climate: summers are hot and rainy, and winters are cool and rainy.
