Aslanapa, a sub-district attached to the central district, gained district status in 1987 when it separated from the central district. Aslanapa covers an area of 731 square kilometres and lies at an altitude of 1,030 metres above sea level.

Meaning of the Name

Various views exist about the origin of the district’s name, and it is believed that the word “apa” comes from the Turkish word oba (settlement). In line with the Turkish tradition of giving elders titles such as Ata, Hoca, Baba and Beğ, the name Aslanapa may have been used to refer to a particular person.

Economy and Society

The economy of Aslanapa district is based on agriculture and livestock farming, and there are no industrial enterprises in the district. Because of unemployment and the lack of industrial development, the district’s population moves to Kütahya and other large cities. Goose farming became a well-developed activity in the district.

History and Culture

Aslanapa became a district in 1987 when it separated from the central district. Aslanapa is one of the smallest districts in Kütahya and in Türkiye. Because of unemployment and the absence of industry, Aslanapa continues to lose population through migration. The word “Apa” in Aslanapa, together with Arslan, was used to denote a personal name.
