History

Doğanyol’s history goes back a long way; it is said to have been founded as a village some 500 years ago. Although the district’s former name appears as Keferdiz, it is recorded in sources as Kefersut and Kefersük. In the Ottoman period, Doğanyol belonged to the Kahta district of what is now Adıyaman province; it was later attached to Elazığ province and, after the Republic was founded, to Malatya province. By a Council of Ministers decree signed on 19 December 1963, the name Keferdiz was changed to Doğanyol. The Doğanyol sub-district, part of Pütürge district in Malatya province, separated from Pütürge in 1990 and became a district under the name Doğanyol.

Geography and Economy

Karakaya Dam lies within the district boundaries and supplies the water needed for farming. Apricot cultivation is the most important source of income in the district. In recent years, the cultivation of strawberries and pomegranates has also increased.

History and Culture

Doğanyol became a district in 1990 after separating from Pütürge. The name of the Keferdiz sub-district was changed to Doğanyol in 1964.
