Turgutlu is a district of Manisa province in the Aegean Region, with an area of 549 km², an elevation of 89 metres and a population of 179,326. It is 30 km from Manisa and 55 km from Izmir. It is bordered by Ahmetli to the east, Şehzadeler and Kemalpaşa to the west, Saruhanlı to the north, and Ödemiş and Bayındır to the south.
Turgutlu was founded by the Turgud tribe, which settled around Dalbahçe village in the time of Sultan Murad II, and over time moved down to the plain to its present location. Turgutlu was occupied 10 days after the Greek occupation of Izmir and remained under occupation until 7 September 1922. After the War of Independence, when the Greek army withdrew from the district, it burned all the neighbourhoods except Bozkurt and Küllük.
The district is under the influence of a Mediterranean climate, and snowfall and frost are rarely seen. The most important tourist facility in the district is the Urganlı Hot Springs, whose waters are carbon dioxide and bicarbonate rich and whose temperature ranges from 50 to 78 degrees Celsius. Karaca Ali Canyon, Küp yar and Ovacık Plateau are the other tourist areas of the district; the nearby Bozdağlar are a favourite place for nature walks.
The most important sources of livelihood in the district are agriculture and industry. In the Gediz Basin, seedless grapes, cotton, tobacco, tomatoes, wheat, cherries, peaches, plums and olives are grown. In recent years cotton production has given way to maize, and alternative crops such as caper and thyme have also been added to farming activities.
