History

Settlement by Turkmens from the lands of the Dulkadiroğulları principality began during the Ottoman period.

History and Culture

The district was renamed Emirdağı from 1 July 1931. The place gained district status with the establishment of Hüdavendigar province in 1867, and took the name Aziziye after Sultan Abdülaziz. Aziziye fell under Greek occupation in August 1921 and was liberated from this occupation during the War of Independence on 22 September 1921. Amorium did not regain its former vitality after the Arab withdrawal. Excavations at Amorium have been led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeliha Demirel Gökalp since 2014.
