Çiğli is a district of İzmir province, lying 8 metres above sea level. To the north lie the districts of Menemen, to the east Karşıyaka, and to the south and west the Gulf of İzmir.
The first settlement in Çiğli was founded by Turks who migrated from the Balkans towards the end of the 19th century. In the early years of the Republic, and in later exchanges of population, Turks from Western Thrace were settled in the district. In 1992, the district was separated from Karşıyaka by Law no. 3806 and became an independent district.
The district was founded on a plain formed by the old bed of the Gediz River, between the ridges of the mountains and the Gulf of İzmir. The district has a typical Mediterranean climate.
