History

The district was founded by Turkish forces arriving in Anatolia, led by Seyyid Ali and Yahya Ali (Yahya Gazi). Yahyalı became a municipality in 1913. At that time it was a town attached to Niğde. In the Republican period it became a sub-district of Develi district. It gained district status attached to Kayseri in 1954.

Geography

The district lies where the northern slopes of the Aladağlar meet the Develi Plain. The Zamantı River, the Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls stream, the Derebağ Waterfall stream and the Kocaçay are the main rivers passing through the district. The district has a typical continental climate of Central Anatolia, although in the low-lying forested area to the south the influence of the Mediterranean climate can be seen, though not fully.

Tourism

The Aladağlar National Park was declared where the borders of Kayseri, Adana and Niğde provinces meet. Of the national park area, 60% lies within Kayseri province, 30% within Adana province and 10% within Niğde province. The Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls lie within the boundaries of Kapuzbaşı village, 76 km from Yahyalı.
