Ağlı is a district of Kastamonu province in the Black Sea Region of the Republic of Türkiye. It is bordered by the districts of Seydiler, Küre, Azdavay and Daday. It is the least populous district in the province.
The clearest information about Ağlı’s history is that it lay within the borders of the Paphlagonia region. Archaeological finds in Kastamonu and its surroundings suggest that the area where the district lies was settled between 1100 and 700 BC. The present settlement was founded in the 13th century, under the rule of the Anatolian Seljuks or the Çobanoğulları. The settlement appears as “Ağulu” among the villages of the Küre subdistrict (kaza) in the 1530 tax register. Ağlı became a district after separating from Küre under Law No. 3644, adopted on 9 May 1990.
