As of the end of 2025, Yalıhüyük is the least populous district in Türkiye.

History

Yalıhüyük, named after the mound on the shore of Suğla Lake, lay in the region known in antiquity as Isauria. Excavations and soundings have shown that the history of Yalıhüyük and its surroundings goes back to the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods. It gained municipal status in 1971 and became a town, and in 1990 it separated from Bozkır district and was elevated to district status.

Geography and Economy

Yalıhüyük lies right beside Suğla Lake and makes its living from agriculture on fertile land that emerged as the lake’s waters receded. The Gölcük Plateau in the Taurus Mountains to the south-west is used as a centre for yayla (highland pasture) life every year and is visited by many people for tourism, holidays and health.

History and Culture

The mound at the centre and its surroundings have been closed to construction because they were declared a conservation area. Traces of the Byzantine-period Ephesian culture can be found in Yalıhüyük.

Highlights

Yalıhüyük was a town of Bozkır district until 1990, when it gained district status. Surrounded by Seydişehir to the north, Ahırlı to the south, Akseki to the west and Bozkır to the east, Yalıhüyük is set in a flat area.
